Formulated and manufactured at Surgipath, H & E and cytology stains provide excellent results in clarity, cellular definition, with beautiful contrasting colors. A number of excellent special stain kits are also available in our portfolio.
Scott’s Tap Water Substitute is used in the histology and cytology laboratory to "blue" nuclear structures subsequent to staining with hematoxlyn. This mild, buffered bluing agent will not loosen or float away your tissue or smear preparation. It blues quickly and any excess is easily removed…READ MORE
SelecTech™ Hematoxylin and Eosin Staining SystemSurgipath has undertaken the task of standardizing the reagents and stains used in the hematoxylin and eosin staining procedure. The reagents and stains that make up this new system must pass vigorous analytical chemistry standar…READ MORE
Surgipath offers three Gill formulations to meet your needs. The Gill I formula is generally recommended for cytology while the stronger Gill III is usually preferred for use in histology. Gill II is a medium strength hematoxylin. The Gill formula hematoxylins are used in the progressive method of …READ MORE
Harris Hematoxylin produces a deep, purple-blue stain. It is generally used in regressive methods, but may also be used progressively both in cytology and histology preparations. DOES NOT CONTAIN MERCURY
Eosin Y is an alcohol-based, ready-to-use secondary stain used primarily in histology for routine hematoxylin and eosin staining. It may also be used in cytology for fast cytoplasmic staining of rush specimens also using the H & E technique.
Orange G-6 is an alcohol-based stain used in the cytology laboratory to detect the presence of keratin in the cytoplasm. It is manufactured by Surgipath under the strictest controls using a standard formulation.
EA-50, EA-50 Modified, and EA-65 are alcohol-based stains primarily used in the cytology laboratory for routine cytoplasmic staining using thePapanicolaou Method.
Carbol-Fuchsin is used to detect the presence of acid-fast organisms in tissue and smears. Mycobacterium tuberculosis and nocardia stain red, background stains green with malachite green.
This stain is used to show amyloid in tissue sections by coloring it red to pink-red. Nuclei will be blue while elastic fibers appear light red. other tissue components remain unstained. Amyloid will exhibit a bright apple-green birefringence when using a polarizing microscope. Kit Components:Congo…READ MORE
This stain is useful in cases involving emphysema, arteriosclerosis, and various other vascular diseases. It histologically demonstrates elastic fibers in tissue sections. Elastic fibers and nuclei stain blue black toblack; collagen will be red while other tissue elements appear yellow. Kit Compone…READ MORE
Gram stain is used to determine gram positive and gram negative organisms in tissue and smears. This procedure utilizes and ammonium oxalate based crystal violet solution which aids in differentiaion. Gram positive organisms stain purple and gramnegative organisms stain red. When ordering please b…READ MORE
Iron stain is used to detect ferric (Fe3+) iron in tissue preparations as well as blood and bone marrow films. This formula utilizes the acid potassium ferrocyanide-ferric ion reaction which produces an insoluble blue color. Iron stain is helpful in the study of iron deficiency anemia, hemochromat…READ MORE
Used as a differentiating solution and secondary stain for the acid fast and GMS techniques. It eliminates problems of over decolorization and inconsistent secondary staining yielding a green background.
This is a 0.5% aqueous solution used to oxidize reactive tissue elements to aldehydes prior to treatment with Schiff reagent. This solution is prepared fresh when your order is placed.
Production in small batches assures a maximum consistency and shelf life. Use in the standard Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) reaction for neutralmucosubstances, glycogen, basement membrane and fungal cell walls. A positive reaction produces a purplish red/bright rose color.
To histologically demonstrate fungi, pneumocystis carinii and basement membranes. Fungi and P. carinii stain purple-brown to black, basement membrane stains black; background staining is green with malachite green solution.Kit Components;Periodic Acid Solution 100mLSilver Methenamine 1vial (100mg)G…READ MORE
Surgipath’s silver stain is used to demonstrate spirochetes and nonfilamentous bacteria in paraffin sections of tissue. Spirochetes and nonfilamentous bacteria stain dark brown to black. Background stainsyellow to light brown.Kit Components;Uranyl Nitrate Solution 500mLSilver Nitrate Solution…READ MORE
A yellow general purpose secondary stain suggested for use with mucicarimine and gram stain tissue procedures.
Trichrome stains are intended for use in the study of connective tissues. They are used primarily for distinguishing collagen from muscle tissue.Microscopic detail offers black nuclei, red cytoplasm, keratin and muscle fibers: blue collagen and mucin. This procedure utilizes aniline blue as a coll…READ MORE
Alcohol and water soluble. For preparing your own eosin secondary stain and for use in compounding stains for Romanovsky techniques and EA formulations. The total dye content is stated on the label. Certified by the Biological Stain Commision.
Used to prepare any hematoxylin formula for routine or special procedures that require nuclear staining or reaction with other tissue components. Certified by the Biological Stain Commision.
Used in cytology for preparing OG-6 for the Papanicolaou staining method. In histology use orange G in methods for pancreas and pituitary or as a secondary stain in some connective tissue staining procedures. The total dye content is stated on the label. Certified by the Biological Stain Commision.

This glass COPLIN JAR may be used for staining or as a solvent preparation chamber for thin-layer chromatography. It holds five single 3" x 1" (74mm x 25mm) slides vertically, or ten slides back to back. The screw cap liner is faced with metal foil to withstand stains and organic solvent…READ MORE
These high-quality flint glass dishes are commonly used for all routine and special staining procedures. Each dish comes with a separate fitted cover which prevents evaporation and contamination and helps to contain chemical odors. The side walls are slightly tapered to facilitate use with stainin…READ MORE
Microscope slides made of white glass are coated with a special adhesive material that allows the slide to be more hydrophilic. This hydrophilicity provides a better base for homogeneous covering by aqueous stains and reagents.
Blue Buffer 8® and Define MX-aq™ are available in concentrates as well as Ready-To-Use formulas. The new formulas eliminate the inconvenience of pouring from concentrate stock bottles and making dilutions for working solutions.
